Q&A
What is the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Alliance (DHHA)?
We are a non-profit organization here to serve the entire "Signing Community". The bylaws of DHHA require that a minimum of 51% of our board be comprised of Deaf and hearing professionals who are fluent in/value American Sign Language (ASL) as well as Deaf Culture. There are no other specific requirements that limit participation. We are an organization that cherishes a visually rich communication environment - an organization that values YOU and the ways of your extended family, and loved ones.

What are the goals of DHHA?

Our goals are:

  • **To foster accessible and collaborative social, recreational and educational programming to encourage personal growth and leadership.
    • For examples of this type of programming, look at our offerings on our Event Calendar.
  • **Develop a strong core of Deaf leaders and a strategy for emerging leaders among the Deaf community to sustain the organization.
    • We mentor Deaf people, our Deaf/hard of hearing leaders, to strengthen our community.
  • **To align ourselves with other organizations to establish a community center.
    • Yes, it is the long term goal of DHHA to provide YOU with a Community Center! Imagine a place where we can go, much like a Deaf YMCA, where we can go and see everyone is fluent and/or learning Sign Language including teachers, administrators and programming staff while cherishing Deaf Culture.
